Google opens SynthID Detector to everyone

AiBeamNews editorial brief · Oct 7, 2026 · Source: Google ↗

Google is expanding SynthID Detector to everyone globally in English. The tool checks media for SynthID watermarks that indicate content was generated by supported AI systems.

Google says the detector can check images, video and audio from Google and participating partners. Its announcement names OpenAI, NVIDIA and Kakao, with Apple support planned.

This is a watermark detector, not a universal truth machine. A result about supported watermarks should not be treated as proof that all other media is human-made or authentic.

The rollout makes an additional verification tool available to everyday readers. For newsrooms and creators, it can be one check in a wider process that also examines the original source and context.
